Britney used to be a force of nature.
Check out her bod and her moves in this video.
She was SO HOT!
I can't believe what's happened to her. Gimme More is maybe the laziest pop song ever written - thoughts? Can anyone think of a lazier one? Let's limit this to artists who make appearances at the top of the pop charts... meaning citing the band Justin Case, or the elder Duff sister does not count.
Current Britney makes me really upset, and almost want to take back the days when I was a superfan.
And for a hot minute I thought she really was going to have a solid comeback. I was SO WRONG!

Vlad, do you remember when I defended Madonna (probably used the "a lot of people can't be wrong" argument) and Ryan Sanborn said "well, a lot of people liked Hitler"?
Neither Madonna nor Britney are as bad as Hitler, but of course that's neither here nor there.
Talking about Britney's golden age is like talking about the golden age of my toilet seat.
She may be better than Mandy Moore or whatever, and maybe she puts on a good show, but she's super lame and retarded, has bad songwriters (there are a few outliers--Toxic was dope), and everyone's sick of her.
I agree that she sucks now. But she's always kinda sucked.
Justin Timberlake may have initially appealed to tweenage girls, but he's grown with his audience. (Hey, just like the Beatles!) I wish we could say the same for Britney.
What I should have said: talking about Britney's golden age is like talking about Liberace's golden age. Only Liberace fans will know what that is like. And I'll never understand either.
yo check out this video of liberace playing piano

i feel sort of unfair weighing in because there was no time when i was into Britney (save the initial shock of Toxic kinda rocking my dome...sub-thread! Toxic: the bubblegum everyone can agree on. I'd include Crazy in Love but to me that's just delicious pop and hence more substantial than any Brit...) to me Britney surfaced in the fallow ground of late 90s early 00s which is something i've bitched about so much i feel no need to catalogue. on an interesting note i associate the initial Brit (Hit Me Baby...) with the Columbine massacre as I was aware of these as concurrent media events. without thinking about it i'm just freestyling what i think i'll need to spend some time on. bad pop of the late 90s, Britney on the scene, Columbine, and SYNTHESIZE! i wish i was still in college but now i have blogs.
ANYWAY, i was kind of surprised by Britney's public "failure" at the VMA's because I didn't find it so much worse than that time she danced with a snake at the VMAs.
This video (slave) is funny to me cause i remember Aidan loved it and showed it to me when it dropped. also i never listened to the lyrics to this gem. WOW
All i really think has changed is people's perception of Brit. Now she's falling apart and so she looks desperate in an attempt to regain her popularity. For every VMA appearance/new single how much do we hear about the kids and the drugs and a possible sex-tape (perhaps her only hope? god what a world, there ain't no god in rock 'n' roll...)
so Britney Spears is dead
long live Britney Spears
ok so as i mentioned before i used to be really into britney spears. and yeah her music has always sucked, but what i'm saying is she's about SO MUCH MORE than music. she used to be a ridiculously well manipulated pop star puppetron and boy was it entertaining. her golden age must be understood within the context of britney spears as a phenomenon, not as britney spears as as an real musician, which she's clearly not. she was like a really absurd vaudeville act, which is what i loved about her. that and her futuristic music videos. oops i did it again and lucky are admittedly two of the most awfully bad songs i've ever heard, but it was the spectacle of them that made them oddly wonderful for a teenage celeste. anyway i can't really explain it any more than that. suffice it to say i know every word to every one of her songs.
also JT has always been my fave.
and i've seen him on tour with N'Sync. Twice.
and I've saw Britney during the peak of her career three times as well - both The Dream Within a Dream tour and the one with Toxic.
and then I saw Justin tour with both of his solo albums.
What I'm getting at is I'm really a teenybopper.
I'm not ashamed of it. It keeps me young.
ok. still getting back in the game. Lazier pop single than "Gimme More"="Who Let the Dogs Out".
blue - eiffel 65
if you remember it
puff daddy copping police for the 'missing you' tribute to biggie. this is the definition of lazy and i feel its only made more egregious in its eulogizing, what a dork p-diddy is. so yeah i'm too cool for britney spears AND puff. what.
